(Investir au Cameroun) - Cameroonian IT services company ST Digital announces the launch of GPU Cloud Africa, the first sovereign hosting offering for artificial intelligence (AI) servers in Cameroun and Côte d'Ivoire, starting from the second quarter of 2025. This offering is operational as of February 11, 2025, according to a press release published by the company.

The objective of this initiative is to "support the development of sustainable AI in Africa by providing start-ups, academic institutions, and research centers with the means to create AI solutions under optimal conditions", the company explains. According to ST Digital, this service enables optimal hosting for AI applications, particularly in the areas of deep learning, big data analytics, and advanced simulations.

"We are proud to offer a solution that combines performance, security, and data sovereignty; GPU Cloud Africa enables African players to develop their own AI solutions without relying on foreign infrastructures," states Anthony Same, General Manager of ST Digital.

In practical terms, this cloud will offer turnkey solutions for African businesses and researchers. It will include highly performant servers to meet local needs, guaranteeing data hosting on the continent and personalised support for developers and start-ups. According to ST Digital, this technology aims to bridge the existing gap by providing infrastructure adapted to the growing local demand for AI.

"Today, 95% of African AI talents must make do with limited infrastructure; a G7 start-up can fine-tune its AI model in 30 minutes, while our innovators have to wait up to six days; this situation is unsustainable, especially in the era of artificial intelligence, the driving force behind global economic transformation," explains Anthony Same.

To bridge the gap, the CEO of ST Digital calls on the entire African ecosystem (businesses, academic institutions and public bodies) to mobilise in order to make Africa a central player in global AI. According to him, artificial intelligence is no longer a question of the future, but a present challenge, and Africa must become its driving force rather than a mere spectator.
