The Cameroonian IT services company, ST DIGITAL, announced on 5 December 2023 the launch of the first cloud service platform based in Cameroun and operated by Cameroonians: www.cloudstore.africa. This CloudStore provides access to services such as website hosting, virtual servers, domain names, and email addresses from servers located in Cameroun, "without sacrificing the comfort and performance of major publisher solutions", as ST DIGITAL explains.

According to the company, the process for accessing these services is also fully automated from order to delivery. In addition to bank cards, the platform also integrates payment methods such as mobile money. All at "extremely affordable rates".

For ST DIGITAL's Managing Director, Anthony Same, www.cloudstore.africa is presented as a response to "the question of data sovereignty". "The location where data and applications are stored is a major sovereignty issue. Indeed, it would be incomprehensible that in the event of a diplomatic or commercial dispute with a major digital player, Cameroonian citizens would be deprived of access to their emails or information systems. Similarly, data belonging to Cameroonians stored in third-party jurisdictions must first comply with the rules of those jurisdictions before complying with national rules," explains ST DIGITAL.

While sharing this concern, Désiré Kammogne, Director of Development at Wise Host, a company specialising in software development, hopes that connectivity issues will not be an obstacle to the smooth operation of this cloudstore. On this point, ST DIGITAL reassures: "at ST DIGITAL we have more than 6 internet service providers, which allows us in the event of a failure on one network to switch to another. Similarly, from a contractual standpoint, our clients can retain their agreements with their existing operators and migrate to the cloud with full transparency and flexibility," Anthony Same had explained in an interview granted to Investir au Cameroun in 2021.

Founded in April 2017, ST DIGITAL is now present in seven countries across Africa (Cameroun, Gabon, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Benin and RDC). Headquartered in Douala, Cameroun, the company offers, in addition to cloud services, digital transformation consulting, integration services, training, application development and cybersecurity.
