ST Digital, a pan-African digital services company, is proud to announce that its teleport in Douala, Cameroun, has obtained provisional certification from the World Teleport Association (WTA) as part of its teleport certification programme. This recognition marks an important milestone for ST Digital and reinforces its position as a leader in the cloud services sector in Central Africa.
High-level international recognition
The WTA certification programme, launched in 2015, aims to establish transparent and independently verified standards to enable teleports to differentiate themselves in the market and allow customers to select services suited to their needs in terms of value for money. To date, 64 certifications have been issued worldwide, with a further 5 teleports currently undergoing evaluation.
The provisional certification granted to ST Digital is the result of a rigorous process involving the submission of a questionnaire of more than 170 items, evaluated against standards established by the WTA Certification Committee. ST Digital now has six months to obtain full certification, which will require on-site validation by an independent auditor.
ST Digital's commitment to operational excellence
For Jean Francis Ahanda, General Manager of the ST Digital Datacenter, this certification is a major recognition. "Obtaining this provisional certification from the World Teleports Association is a major recognition for ST Digital and our Douala teleport. It demonstrates our commitment to upholding the highest international standards in the operation of our infrastructure. As the first neutral and independent operator of a Tier 3-level datacenter in Central Africa, this certification strengthens our position as the leader in cloud services in Central Africa. We are determined to continue our efforts to obtain full certification, thereby guaranteeing our clients reliable and secure solutions, adapted to local and international requirements."
A guarantee of quality and security for clients
Teleport certification is crucial for operators and their clients, as it creates an objective, transparent, and internationally recognised method for documenting the quality of teleport operations for customers and strategic partners. This certification also enables clients to select providers offering the level of performance and pricing suited to their specific applications.
Robert Bell, Executive Director of the WTA, underlines the importance of this initiative: "Since its beginnings, the teleport industry has been a true entrepreneurial success story. It is in full maturation, with new entrants continuing to emerge. The rapid adoption of independent assessment and validation standards proposed by the WTA certification programme is proof of this."
