In a world where cybersecurity is becoming a major concern for businesses and institutions, securing digital infrastructures is essential. From 12 to 13 August 2024, ST DIGITAL participated in a technical seminar organised by the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) in Yaoundé, in partnership with ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). This workshop focused on the adoption of DNSSEC, a security extension for the domain name system (DNS), which is crucial for protecting online transactions.

The Importance of DNSSEC for Internet Security

The DNS (Domain Name System) is a key infrastructure upon which all Internet services of businesses, associations and public organisations depend. However, this infrastructure is vulnerable to attacks, particularly those aimed at redirecting users to malicious websites. DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) offers a solution to this problem by adding a security layer that verifies the authenticity of DNS data, thereby preventing cache poisoning attacks or other malicious manipulations.

Workshop objectives

The workshop, held at the Hôtel Franko in Yaoundé, brought together various Internet stakeholders in Cameroun, including DNS operators. The primary objective was to raise awareness among these stakeholders of the importance of DNSSEC and to train them in best practices for securing domain name systems. ANTIC, in collaboration with ICANN, highlighted the need for widespread adoption of DNSSEC to strengthen user confidence and secure online transactions.

Exchanges and discussions

Over the course of these two days of exchanges, experts from ANTIC and ICANN shared in-depth knowledge on the functioning of DNSSEC, its benefits and the challenges related to its implementation. Participants had the opportunity to interact with specialists, ask technical questions and discuss best practices for effective adoption of DNSSEC in Cameroun. ST DIGITAL, as a major digital player in Central and West Africa, actively contributed to the discussions, sharing its expertise and commitment to cybersecurity.
