With the inauguration of an eco-responsible Tier III datacenter in Grand-Bassam, the pan-African company ST Digital continues its bold ambition: to build a 100% African cloud, secure, sustainable, and accessible to all.
A bet on digital sovereignty
For decades, the majority of African data has been hosted outside the continent — often in Europe or the United States — exposing governments and businesses to a problematic technological and legal dependency. ST Digital intends to break this cycle.
"This data centre is not just a building. It is an act of sovereignty and a strong signal: Africa can also master its own digital infrastructure", explains Anthony Samé, Chief Executive Officer of ST Digital.
The Grand-Bassam site, built on the principles of eco-responsibility and in accordance with international Tier III standards, illustrates this ambition: to offer public and private stakeholders local, reliable hosting that complies with the highest security and performance standards.

World-class infrastructure, designed for Africa
Spanning 4,000 m² and equipped with a capacity of 160 racks, the datacenter can accommodate more than 6,000 physical servers and up to 50,000 virtual machines. The investment, valued at several million dollars, combines cutting-edge technologies, advanced security systems and full redundancy of electrical power supplies.
But performance is not limited to the technical aspect. The site was designed according to an eco-responsible approach, prioritizing energy efficiency and the integration of local materials.
"We wanted to demonstrate that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand", states Jean Francis AHANDA, Chief Technical Officer of ST DIGITAL.
A pan-African hub for a 100% African cloud
The Abidjan datacenter joins a network already deployed by ST Digital in Cameroun, Togo, and Congo Brazzaville.
By 2026, additional sites will emerge in Guinea, Gabon and Sénégal, gradually forming an African digital backbone.
This continental network relies on the www.cloudstore.africa, an online portal enabling businesses, startups, and public administrations to order local cloud services – hosting, virtual servers, backup, artificial intelligence – with local payment and no external dependency.

A driver of local employment and skills
In addition to its strategic role, the Grand-Bassam infrastructure directly contributes to local economic development:
- Several hundreds of direct and indirect jobs;
- A training programme dedicated to cloud and cybersecurity professions;
- The rise of a Ivorian digital ecosystem aligned with international best practices.
The initiative is part of the momentum behind public policies on digital sovereignty and inclusion championed by the Ivorian authorities.
A symbol of digital emancipation
For ST Digital, this datacenter represents more than an investment: it is a declaration of technological independence. The company affirms its determination to embody a new generation of African digital players capable of competing with global giants, while remaining true to their values and local realities.
"We no longer want to be mere consumers of foreign technologies. We want to build our own solutions, tailored to our needs and our ambitions", concludes Anthony Samé.
With this project, ST Digital lays the foundations for a future where Africa hosts, protects, and leverages its data on its own territory. A vision that is at once strategic, ecological, and deeply political: that of a continent finally in control of its digital destiny.
