The Cameroonian company ST Digital recently announced the launch of a hosting service dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) applications in Cameroun. This initiative follows the deployment, in December 2023, of their 100% African cloud platform.
The new hosting service is designed to provide an optimal environment for AI applications, particularly in areas such as deep learning, big data analytics, and natural language processing. By offering this solution, ST Digital aims to meet the growing needs of African businesses and researchers for computing capabilities suited to AI projects.
The ST Digital cloud platform allows users to access various services, such as website hosting, virtual servers, domain name registration and email accounts, all from servers located in Cameroun. This localisation ensures better data sovereignty for African clients. Furthermore, the process of accessing these services is fully automated, from order to delivery, and integrates local payment methods such as mobile money, making the platform accessible and suited to the African market.
Anthony Same, Managing Director of ST Digital, underscored the importance of data sovereignty by stating: "The location where data and applications are stored is a major sovereignty issue. It would be incomprehensible that, in the event of a diplomatic or commercial disagreement with a major digital player, Cameroonian citizens should be deprived of access to their emails or information systems. Similarly, the data of Cameroonians stored in third-party jurisdictions must first comply with the rules of those jurisdictions before complying with national regulations."
Founded in April 2017, ST Digital operates in several African countries, including Cameroun, Gabon, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Bénin, and the République démocratique du Congo. In addition to cloud services, the company offers digital transformation consulting, systems integration, training, application development, and cybersecurity services.
With the launch of this AI application hosting service, ST Digital strengthens its position as a leader in technological innovation in Africa, offering solutions tailored to the specific needs of the continent and contributing to the development of the African digital ecosystem.
