The ISO 9001 standard: a key tool for ST DIGITAL performance

The ISO 9001 standard relating to the Quality Management System (QMS) can provide Digital Service Companies with a significant competitive advantage in an intensely competitive market characterised by an ever-increasing pace of technological advances.

From project management to quality, through training and risk management, this standard promotes operational excellence and customer satisfaction. ST DIGITAL presents its approach.

Understanding the ISO 9001 standard

The ISO 9001 standard, officially "ISO 9001:2015", is an international standard that defines the requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS). This standard applies to any type of organisation, regardless of its size or sector of activity. It is structured around seven quality management principles:

  • • Orientation client : le dessein ultime de l’entreprise est de répondre aux besoins et aux attentes de ses clients au sens large ;
  • • Leadership : le top management doit fournir un cap et un environnement interne propices à l’atteinte des objectifs ;
  • • Engagement et implication du personnel : une organisation performante attire et fidélise des personnes compétentes. Elle les implique et les responsabilise pour atteindre ses objectifs ;
  • • Approche processus : pour obtenir des résultats cohérents et prévisibles, surtout dans un secteur aussi dynamique sur celui du digital, les activités et les ressources connexes sont gérées comme des processus ;
  • • Amélioration continue : les organisations performantes s’engagent dans une démarche d’amélioration continue de leurs processus, mais aussi de leurs produits et services, en se basant notamment sur les retours de leurs clients ;
  • • Prise de décision fondée sur des preuves : le processus décisionnel est basé sur la donnée (data-driven) plutôt que le flair et l’intuition ;
  • • Management des relations avec les parties prenantes : les organisations performantes gèrent les relations avec les acteurs de leur écosystème de manière rationnelle et volontariste au service de la satisfaction client.

The ISO 9001:2015 standard introduces the concept of a "risk-based approach" to the QMS: the organisation must indeed identify the risks and opportunities that could affect the conformity of its products and services, and put in place the means to achieve the expected results. It should also be noted that the ISO 9001:2015 standard is based on the PDCA (Plan – Do – Check – Act) approach, which works towards continuous improvement.

The achievement of ISO 9001 certification attests that the organisation has implemented an effective Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with the requirements of the standard. It is generally issued by an independent and recognised certification body following an in-depth audit of the organisation's QMS.

ISO 9001: what value does it bring to ST DIGITAL?

Improved project management: ST DIGITAL often manages numerous simultaneous projects with different clients, teams and technologies. The use of subcontractors and external consultants adds a layer of complexity to project management. The ISO 9001 standard encourages the standardisation and documentation of project management processes, which helps improve efficiency, coordination and communication, and reduce risks associated with subcontracting. By adopting a systematic and consistent approach to project management, companies can better control costs, meet deadlines, guarantee quality and satisfy client expectations;

Quality of service assurance: the digital sector is particularly competitive, and the range of products and services tends to become standardised with the accessibility of technologies and knowledge.

Also, prices often end up aligning. This is why service quality often emerges as the main differentiating factor. The ISO 9001 standard, which emphasises continuous improvement, equips companies to deploy a rigorous quality assurance process, notably through the standardisation of service procedures and the implementation of customer feedback systems;

Skills and training management: digital technology is undoubtedly the most dynamic sector of activity, and the pace of technological advances increases every year. This is evident with the boom in generative AI, with an almost weekly frequency of innovation. Digital services companies must therefore ensure that their teams possess the skills and knowledge necessary to equip their clients and help them navigate a turbulent technological environment. The ISO 9001 standard encourages organisations to implement formal skills management and training processes, thereby ensuring that employees are up to date with the latest technologies and industry practices.

Risk management: digital service companies face a broad spectrum of risks, both internally and with their clients (cyberattacks, data breaches, rapid technological changes, obsolescence, etc.). The ISO 9001 standard encourages a proactive approach to risk management by identifying potential risks, assessing their impact, and implementing appropriate management plans.

Enhanced reputation: obtaining ISO 9001 certification can improve the reputation of ST DIGITAL with its clients, partners and stakeholders. It demonstrates ST DIGITAL's commitment to quality and continuous improvement, which can add value to the brand image in a highly competitive market.
