[Autopilot] February 2024 changes

In February 2024, Microsoft introduced various changes to Windows Autopilot to improve its behaviour.

These include in particular:

  • After many months (years!), here is  the General Availability of Self-Deploying mode. The Self-Deploying mode of Windows Autopilot allows you to deploy Windows devices with little or no user interaction. As soon as the device connects to the network, the device provisioning process starts automatically: the device joins Microsoft Entra ID, enrolls in Intune, and synchronizes all device-based configurations assigned to it. This mode is very convenient for use in Kiosk mode.
  • Here too, after many years, here is the general availability of the pre-provisioning deployment mode also known as White Glove.
  • This mode is used by companies that want to ensure devices are enterprise-ready before the user accesses them. With pre-provisioning, administrators, partners or OEMs can access a technician flow from the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) and initiate device configuration. The device is then sent to the user, who completes provisioning during the user phase. Pre-provisioning delivers the majority of the configuration in advance so that the end user can access their workstation more quickly.
