At the present time, almost every inhabitant of the planet with access to the Internet has at least heard of artificial intelligence (AI) and perhaps of Neural Networks (NN). The enormous amount of capital spent under its banner and the interesting results obtained in industry and academia have naturally attracted a huge crowd eager to learn more or even attempt to specialise in this field. In general, nothing prevents it from being launched as a fancy label, as long as the concept is new and applicable across multiple fields of activity. Thus, one thing is clear: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not a recent phenomenon; yet it is only over the past decade that it has been discussed with such acuity. Indeed, in the field of science and technology, the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a widely used expression. Its recent breakthroughs have enabled it to gain greater recognition across several fields of scientific research. For some, AI helps machines learn from their mistakes and perform tasks more efficiently. Along the same lines, one of its many breakthroughs is its combination with Neural Networks (NN), which draws inspiration from the structure of the human brain and helps computers and many other machines to behave more like humans.

Thus, for several decades, the terms and expressions Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Neural Networks (NN) have been increasingly used, whether in industry, in academia, or in any other area of life. However, these terms and expressions are very often used incorrectly and indiscriminately, even abusively, to express facts that are often loosely or not at all related. This inadequate or highly superficial use is most often due to a lack of understanding of what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is and what it entails. What exactly is artificial intelligence (AI)? How can it be defined? What characterises it?

To answer all these questions and many others, ST DIGITAL invites you to the very first conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) organised by the Francophone Agency for Artificial Intelligence (AFRIA), to be held in Yaoundé on 28 September 2022
