ST Digital, a pan-African transformation firm, opened its first data centre in Ivory Coast yesterday.

The facility, located in the VITIB technology free zone in Grand-Bassam, seeks to be a key component of the country's digital sovereignty agenda.

The move has been hailed as a watershed moment in the development of a sovereign, secure, and high-performance cloud infrastructure servicing public and private organisations in the region.

The facility, built in collaboration with cloud computing provider OVHcloud, was inaugurated with the support of the Ivorian Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitalisation.

The data centre, built to Tier III standards and run locally, is intended to meet the digital transformation needs of Ivorian businesses and organisations.

Sylvie Houlière Mayca, managing director for France, Belux, Africa and Middle East at OVHcloud, said, “Digital sovereignty is defined by having control over one’s digital destiny.

"We are pleased to partner with ST Digital, whose project reflects our shared conviction – that of the need for a sovereign cloud, without compromising on quality, security or performance.”

Anthony Same, CEO of ST Digital, stated that the opening of the data centre in Abidjan was a significant step forward for Ivory Coast and West Africa's digital future.

"Our alliance with OVHcloud allows us to benefit from the expertise of a global leader while preserving our strategic independence, with the ambition to offer tailored solutions where security, performance and sovereignty are non-negotiable,” Same said.
