Pink October: Symptoms of breast cancer
ST DIGITAL, Fabrice ADZRAKOU

The month of October is synonymous with breast cancer awareness, a public health issue affecting millions of women around the world. Octobre Rose is an opportunity to emphasize the importance of early screening and awareness about this disease. At ST DIGITAL, we are committed to promoting women's health and encouraging dialogue around breast cancer symptoms.

Why raise awareness?

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in Africa. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1 in 25 women risks developing breast cancer during her lifetime on the continent. However, through early screening, the chances of recovery can be significantly improved. Awareness and education are essential tools to help women recognize the warning signs of this disease.

Symptoms to Watch For

It is crucial to become familiar with the symptoms of breast cancer. Here are some signs that may indicate a problem:

Modification de la forme ou de la taille du sein : Un changement notable de la silhouette de vos seins peut être un signal d'alerte.

Lumps or masses: The detection of a lump or mass in the breast or under the armpit, even if painless, requires a medical consultation.

Skin changes: Redness, itching, or peeling skin on the breast or nipple can be warning signs.

Nipple discharge: Any discharge (especially if bloody or translucent) should be examined by a healthcare professional.

Persistent pain: Although pain is not always associated with cancer, any persistent pain in the breast area should be discussed with a doctor.

L'Importance du dépistage drécoce

Women are advised to perform monthly self-examinations to detect any abnormalities. In addition, regular screenings, such as mammography, are essential from the age of 40 or as recommended by your doctor. These examinations enable the detection of tumours at an early stage, which can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment.
